چکیده

Abbasi, S. A. and R. Soni (1986). "An examination of environmentally safe levels of zinc (II), cadmium (II) and lead (II) with reference to impact on channelfish Nuria denricus." Environmental Pollution Series A, Ecological and Biological 40(1): 37-51. As a continuation of our earlier studies on the impact of heavy metals on aquatic organisms (Abbasi & Soni, 1984), the behavioural responses and survival of the teleost Nuria denricus exposed to different levels of zinc (II), cadmium (II) and lead (II) were studied. Safe concentration (SC) values of the metals were determined with the help of computer-aided long-term bioassays. Comparisons of the SC with the minimum allowable levels of the corresponding metals in drinking water, effluents, irrigation water and fisheries revealed that, except for a few cases, the existing national and international water quality standards for various water uses are higher than the SC. The disparity between the SC and the permitted levels of zinc and cadmium was especially noteworthy, indicating the need for a thorough re-evaluation of the toxicity and safe levels of these metals.

The effects of climate on Pacific salmon - A Summary of published literature

This is a summary of the published studies of the effects of climate and climate change on Pacific salmon. The summary reports the results of the research in a way that is readable for the general public. Consequently, the standard approach of referencing the various statements to appropriate papers is omitted. Instead, we produced an annotated bibliography of approximately 350 papers that is a...

Acute Toxicity of Mercuric Chloride (HgCl2), Lead Chloride (PbCl2) and Zinc Sulfate (ZnSO4) on Silver Dollar Fish (Metynnis fasciatus)

Background: Since heavy metals can accumulate in the tissues of aquatic organisms, they can cause a range of hazardous effects which can become harmful to humans. The aim of this study was to investigate the acute effects of some heavy metals as potential dangerous substances by assessing the mortality effects of Mercuric Chloride (HgCl2), Lead Chloride (PbCl2) and Zinc Sulfate (ZnSO4) pollutan...
